Guitar Shows

Decades of being a professional musician never included going to a guitar show.
Oddly, my absence was not because I was uninterested. It was because
I was unaware. I bought gear for gigs at my favorite local music store.
I never saw myself as a collector. I vaguely saw my instruments as investments.
They were tools I used at work. A carpenter may have a favorite hammer,
but he doesn’t dream of a hammer collection.
Things changed for me when an enthusiastic friend introduced me to this scene.
The emotional impact of walking into a large room with a forest of guitar necks
made my heart rate go up a bit. These were guitars I could not see at a normal
music store, especially this many of them.
Each table had a group of items curated by a dealer. They were all different.
Some had vintage instruments. Some were electric. Some were acoustic.
Some were historic. Some were hand made by the person you were talking to.
Some dealers had parts, some had gear, they all had a story. Most were interested in your guitar and if you would sell it to them or trade.
